LACQUERWARE PROCESSING:
Making traditional lacquer practiced in Vietnam is a long process involving many stages. Producing lacquerware need about 45 to 90 days for traditional paint to finish but one piece
Stage 1: Preparing raw frames. Raw frames can be:
- Ply wood
- MDF
- Raw ceramic or porcelain, Bamboo
- Fiber glass
- And others…
What material we use to make raw frames depending on the shapes of products
Stage 2: Covering raw frames with a mixture of natural lacquer and mountain rock powder. The product is covered with fine cotton gauze to ensure that there will be no cracking at a later stage.
Stage 3: After dying the coating, we cover products with a mixture of natural lacquer and mountain rock powder again
Stage 4: After the previous coating has dried, we use sand-papers to sand without water all the surface of the products
Stage 5: Cover products with natural lacquer.
Stage 6: Let the products dry by themselves, we use we use water sand papers to sand all the surface of the products.
Stage 7: Repeat stage 5 and 6 five times
Stage 8: Making decoration, including
- metallic color
- Incrusting mother of pearl
- Incrusting eggshell
- Painting, designing, drawing
- Or combining all the above
Stage 9: Cover products with a coat of clear lacquer.
Stage 10: The coating has been dried; we use fine sand papers to sand all the Products.
Stage 11: Repeating stage 9 and 10 five times
Stage 12: The Craft-men use his palm with “xoan” powder to polish the surface. Nothing is more valuable than the palm of workers in polishing process.
Stage 13: The logo is stenciled on the base of the product. The piece is carefully inspected and packed. The proicess of making lacquerware is complete.

1. Keep your lacquer ware out of direct sunlight and away from extreme heat. Ultraviolet light and extreme heat will fade the lacquer ware surface and result in tiny cracks. once damaged, deterioration can happen and the beauty and life span of your lacquer ware will be reduced.
2. Avoid using chemicals to clean your lacquer ware. Instead, try to use dry or damp cloth to gently wipe away dust and moisture.
3. When you want to wash your lacquer ware, use mild soap and clear water or warm water. Rinse and dry immediately after cleaning. Do not clean with so hot water or try not to soak your lacquer ware for too long.
