    Gua sha (Chinese pinyin: guā shā), meaning "scraping sha-bruises", is a traditional Chinese medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to produce light bruising.     In Chinese, "gua" means rub, scrape or friction, and "sha" is a 'reddish, elevated, millet-like skin rash' (aka bruise). Sha is a term used to describe blood stasis in the subcutaneous tissue before and after it is raised as bruise. When scraping is applied to related skin with moderate strokes, the sha will surfaces on the skin as small red bruise. In minutes the bruise will fade into ecchymosis. The color and rate of fading are indicators for the diagnostic and prognostic.   Gua sha is one technique that intentionally raises sha rash or bruise,and gua sha is absolutely a natural therapy and no need any medicine which more or less have harm to human body. Gua sha is sometimes referred to as "scraping" or "coining" by English speakers, it has also been given the descriptive French name, tribo-effleurage.

How does Gua Sha therapy help detoxify the body?

    When this type of massage is applied, something called bruise is released on the surface of the skin. Bruise are small red spots that appear on the skin after gua sha therapy. They are essentially a useful by-product that triggers the cleansing process of the treated area, eliminating dead blood cells and other similar toxins.

Used Method:
1.Use the thick side of the gua sha board when treatment. Use the thin side when health care.
2.Scraping from the neck to the back, abdomen, upper limbs and then to the lower limbs, from top to bottom scraping. Scraping from inside to outside in the chest.
3.Gua sha board and scraping direction generally keeps at 45 ~ 90 degrees.
4.Scraping time for each site is 3~5 minutes, the longest time do not exceed 20 minutes.
5.The  Sha will fade about 3~5 days. When the Sha fade, you can scraping again. 

Precautions:1.Scraping should be sheltered, can not use a fan or air conditioning blowing straight, inorder to avoid the cold evil enter the body through the open sweat pore.Pay attention to the indooremperature,  especially in winter, do not operate gua sha at the outlet of the room, and in summer, do not let the patient being exposed under blowing fan.
2. Drink a cup of warm water after gua sha (salt or sugar water will be better) ,and have a rest for 15 to 20 minutes.to prevent dizziness and fatigue, to promote the metabolism, and to speed up the discharge of metabolites.3.Should bath after 3 hours and use hot water, not cold water.



Does the "gua sha" make damage to skin?    After gua sha, the skin will be raised red or purple "sha" and it looks very horrible. So some people wonder whether the skin was damaged, but you are no need to worry about it whatever the color of the "sha" is. Usually, the color of the "sha" will be a indicator of the disease severity. The heavier the disease is, the deeper color does the "sha" show.
