Organic pigments refer to a wide range of chemical families and cover a wide spectrum of properties. They are mainly used for applications needing high tinting strength and brilliant shades while inorganic pigments are mainly useful where high opacity is needed. The organic pigment has no affinity to the colored substance, instead being attached to the surface of the colored substance through adhesive or film-forming material to achieve the purpose of coloring the object.
We can distinguish three main categories of organic pigments:PolycyclicAzo (Mono- and Di-)metal complexes
For each category, classical and high performances pigments are available. The performances of the pigment will depend on:Chemical structuresThe surface propertiesThe crystallinityParticle size and size distribution.
