The evidence reveals that the practice of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is revolutionizing the management of chronic tendinopathies because it provides a promising and non-invasive alternative therapy to invasive treatments such as infiltration and surgery. Research also shows that ESWT may significantly benefit the treatment of wounds and bone non-union fractures. This interactive, evidence-based, one day course includes lectures, case study analysis and hands-on sessions. Lectures cover biophysical principles, physiological / therapeutic effects, contraindications, as well as dosimetric and application parameters related to shockwave therapy. Also covered are the fundamentals of soft tissue healing and tendon pathology and repair. During the hands-on sessions, participants will discuss case studies and simulate, using dosimetric and application guidelines, the use of ESWT for upper and lower limb tendinosis. Application of ESWT for wound and bone non-union therapy will be demonstrated. This course allows for much interaction between participants and the presenter. It is designed to prepare participants for safe and evidence-based usage of ESWT in the field of rehabilitation.
