It has a broad spectrum antifungal effect. It has antibacterial effects on superficial fungi and some deep fungi. The main clinical use for external use, treatment of skin fungal diseases, such as hand and foot sputum, body sputum, ear canal, vaginal fungal disease. The product is highly toxic, and may have gastrointestinal reactions, abnormal liver function, and leukopenia. It is now used sparingly. No external use for external use, occasional local inflammation. For topical use, 1% to 3% cream; suppository.

Function:
It is commonly available as an over-the-counter substance in various dosage forms, such as a cream, and also (especially in the case of ear infection) as a combination medicine. It is also available as a troche or throat lozenge (prescription only). For ear infection, it is often applied in liquid form, as ear drops. Clotrimazole is also commonly found in conjunction with Betamethasone, known as Lotriderm, to add steroid properties. Additionally, Clotrimazole is used to treat the sickling of cells (related to sickle cell anemia) by blocking ion channels in the RBC (red blood cell) membrane, keeping ions and water within the cell.
