The addition of bile acid to aquaculture feeds has four major benefits :

Effect of bile acid on the growth performance and body composition of turbot juvenile (Scophthalmus maximus L).
In this experiment, the addition of bile acid can significantly improve weight gain rate and specific growth rate and other growth performance indicators on turbot juvenile, which is the same as the research on rainbow trout (oncorhynchus mykiss).
The addition of bile acid significantly improved the feed intake rate of experimental fish, the study have shown that animal feed intake is mainly determined by the intake of energy[11 - 12], It can be inferred that bile acids could increase the utilization of energy materials like protein and fat, thus enhance the growth performance on breeding animals
Sun Jianzhen[13] compared the growth performance on turbots with addition of bile acids under two different fat levels, and the effect of bile acids on the group with low fat level(10%)was better than the group with low fat level(18%), but because the crude protein assay in experiment diet was lower, the highest body weight gain rate is around 70%, which is far lower than the result in this experiment. Therefore, it can be seen that bile acid only has a growth promoting role, while protein and fat and other nutrients are the key factors to influence growth performance.
