Cobalt, lithium, copper and plastics in waste lithium batteries are valuable resources and have high recovery value. Therefore, the scientific and effective treatment and disposal of the waste lithium battery not only has obvious environmental benefits, but also has good economic benefits.
With the development of economy, there are a lot of waste lithium batteryevery year , if there is no effective treatment, the six fluorine lithium phosphate, carbonate and organic compounds,cobalt, copper and other heavy metals contained in the potential will inevitably pose a threat of pollution on the environment. On the other hand, cobalt, lithium, copper, aluminum, nickel and plastic are the precious resources in the waste lithium battery, and have very high recovery value. Therefore, the scientific and effective treatment and disposal of the waste lithium battery not only has obvious environmental benefits, but also has good economic benefits.
The lithium battery is mainly composed of outer shell, Positive Electrode, negative electrode, electrolyte and a diaphragm. The positive electrode is formed by coating the lithium cobalt powder on both sides of the aluminum foil collecting fluid body through the adhesion of the PVDF; the negative electrode structure is similar to the positive electrode,the carbon powder is bonded to both sides of the copper foil collecting fluidbody. At present, the research of waste lithium battery utilization mainly focuses on the recovery ofpositive electrodematerial(cobalt and lithium with high value), but the separation and recovery of negative electrode materials are very few.

The copper in the negative electrode of the waste lithium battery (about 35%) is an important material for production. The carbon powder adhered to it can be used as additives such as plastics and rubberindustry. Therefore, the separation of the negative electrode material of waste lithium battery is effective for realizing the resource reuse of waste lithium battery and eliminating the corresponding environmental impact.
Our production line of battery recycling machineadopts hammer crushing, vibration screening and air separation combined process to separate and recycle the positive and negative materialof waste lithium battery. The results showed that the positive and negative electrode materials aftercrushing and screening, copper& aluminum powder in crushed material whichsize greater than 0.250 mm is92.4% in grade,the positive and negative material is96.6% in crushed material which is less than 0.125 mm, all these can be directly recovered; in particle size of crushedmaterial 0.125~0.250 mm, copper, aluminum is in low grade, and they can be effective separation and recovery fromcathode materials by air separation; in air separation process, operation flow rate is 1 m/s, the recovery of copper and aluminum reached 92.3%, grade reach 84.4%.
