Acrylic, technically known as Polymethyl methylacrylate, PMMA offers a number of outstanding characteristics including optical clarity, transparency, impact and UV stability. The acrylic can be casted, moulded or extruded very easily and provide an attractive replacement for glass. Typical applications include automotive brake lights, medical syringes, sign boards, bathroom fittings, and many more. Acrylic scrap, surplus material, cut-offs, skeletons, damaged inventory are abundantly available for recycling and production of Regenerated Monomer, Regenerated Methylmethacrylate, RMMA, which can be used as raw material for production of acrylic products. Shimi is offering a clean technology for recycling different types of acrylic scraps with high yield and low pollution load. The effective cracking technique followed by novel purification method ensures the minimization of monomer loss and high monomer purity.

PROCESS:
The acrylic monomer, MMA can be regenerated from the scrap with the purity of 98% and above using control cracking process and vacuum distillation column. The unique process ensures the reproducible results and purity with low pollution discharge.
Initially acrylic scraps are converted to acrylic chips of regular size using a Hammer Mill/Crusher and conveyed to a Cracking Unit. The cracking unit is designed based on Moving Bed mechanism using inert material such as silica sand in presence nitrogen gas (inert atmosphere). The acrylic monomer vapours are collected and subjected to purification process followed by Vacuum Distillation to produce acrylic monomer with purity of 98% and above.
The major air pollutant generated during acrylic recycling is from the vacuum pumps used in the vacuum distillation process. Adequate measure such as packed bed scrubber has been provided to control the air pollutant. The schematic diagram of process is enclosed for your reference.
