Myelin is a dielectric (electrically insulating) material that forms a layer,the myelin sheath , usually around only the axon of a neuron. It is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system.Demyelination is the loss of some neurodegenerative autoimmune diseases, inflammation and injury or as complication of diabetes. This impairs the conduction of signals in the affected nerves,causing impairment in sensation, movement, and cognition.
To determine the extent of demyelination, the technique which allows localization and visualization of the myelin fibers will be useful.
Luxol Fast Blue / Eosin Stain Kit is designed for staining myelin/myelinated axons and Nissil substance on formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue as well as frozen tissue. This product is used for identifying the basic neuronal structure in brain or spinal cord sections.
