Soda lime is a mixture of chemicals, used in granular form in closed breathing environments, such as general anaesthesia, submarines, rebreathers and recompression chambers, to remove carbon dioxide from breathing gases to prevent CO2 retention and carbon dioxide poisoning.
The main components:
Calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2 (about 82%)
Water, H2O (about 14-16%)
Sodium hydroxide, NaOH (about 3%)
Indicator (about 1%)
Appearance
Shape: short cylindrical granule
Size(mm): Φ3±0.5mm
L 4.0~7.0mm
Color: white, pink
Available in two forms:
Non-indicating type:
Granules do not change color on absorption of CO2.
Indicating Type:
Changes color on absorption of CO2.
Indicating Type Soda Lime is available in 2 forms:
1)Pink to White on CO2 absorption
2)White to Violet on CO2 absorption.
