PRANCE curtain wall system is an outer covering of a building in which the outer walls are non-structural, but merely keep the weather out and the occupants in. As the curtain wall is non-structural it can be made of a lightweight material, reducing construction costs. When glass is used as the curtain wall, a great advantage is that natural light can penetrate deeper within the building. The curtain wall façade does not carry any dead load weight from the building other than its own dead load weight. The wall transfers horizontal wind loads that are incident upon it to the main building structure through connections at floors or columns of the building. A curtain wall is designed to resist air and water infiltration, sway induced by wind and seismic forces acting on the building, and its own dead load weight forces.
Curtain wall systems are typically designed with extruded aluminum members, although the first curtain walls were made of steel. The aluminium frame is typically infilled with glass, which provides an architecturally pleasing building, as well as benefits such as daylighting. However, parameters related to solar gain control such as thermal comfort and visual comfort are more difficult to control when using highly glazed curtain walls. Other common infills include: stone veneer, metal panels, louvres, and operable windows or vents.
Curtain walls differ from store-front systems in that they are designed to span multiple floors, and take into consideration design requirements such as: thermal expansion and contraction; building sway and movement; water diversion; and thermal efficiency for cost-effective heating, cooling, and lighting in the building.

1. What kind of materials will you be using?
A: There's a wide range of materials we use. The kind of glass we use and the tensile strength of the glass is based upon the area we are building in as well as the structural and local building codes. If you live in an area regularly hit by earthquakes, we are going to use much stronger glass that's engineered to withstand a quake after it's installed. That goes for any area where acts of nature might have a hand in the destruction of your building.
2. How long will the work take?
A: It depends. If you have a two story building and you want half of it to be commercial curtainwall or an unusual architectural design, it's going to take several weeks or months longer to complete than installing a single entryway. The weather plays a part in that as well, as a lot of rain will restrict the amount of work that can be done in a day.
3. Speaking of rain, how are you going to keep the elements from damaging the rest of my building?

4. How much is this going to cost me?
A: When you call commercial curtainwall installers looking for a contractor to do the job, use your head. Get quotes from every reputable and licensed/bonded contractor you have to come look at your building. Chances are, all the decent commercial curtainwall installers will give you quotes that are pretty close in price. Don't ask for a quote over the phone as no one will be able to see the dimensions of the project and tell you what it's going to cost.
